  • There are many reasons for this. One is that private schools can pick the cream of the crop so they only end up with the students that want to learn and have parents that care about their education.

  • That is simply not true. Spending per student can't be determined without an in dept analysis. If in the United States an Algebra book costs $10 and in Mexico it costs $5 the added costs will have nothing to do with actual teaching or the results.

  • The government is broke? Why would that be? Could it be that you can't keep giving tax cuts to the people with the most money as they outsource good jobs so that the tax base continues to shrink? Could it be all of the wars...

  • Paying more does attract better qualified teachers... expectations when a school is hiring have to be raised or lowered in proportion to how much they have to give.

  • Has ACTUAL cost per student doubled in the last 35 years with EVERYTHING taken into consideration, such as inflation, cost of living? Do TEACHERS make TWICE as much as they did 35 years ago? I don't even have to look that up to know that the answer is NO.
